On 15th June 2013, Stephann gave a keynote talk at the 2nd IRMSS Research Methods Conference in Limerick, Ireland. His talk was on achieving transparency and rigour in qualitative research.

In his talk, Stephann argued that researchers should adopt an ethos of transparency in research presentations and write-ups. He argued that whist checklists of criteria for 'good' qualitative research are useful to some extent, it is the spirit of the checklists rather than the letter that is most useful. He suggested that researchers move beyond research checklists and towards adopting a value system that holds research transparency and rigour in high regard. He stressed the importance of values such as openness, honestly and integrity in helping to achieve research rigour and transparency.
